A barge spilled its load of heavy equipment, including a truck carrying diesel fuel, into the Robson Bight Ecological Reserve on August 20. We heard this pretty soon after it happend. We were in direct contact with a lot of people thru Orca-Live and also direct with Mackay Whalewatching. When the decision was made to start a fund raise we said we would collect all news and as much footage like links, images and video and publish this to support the fund raise. At the same moment Ellen started a petition, so we all work together now and make sure all information is on this site. The fund raise is fully supported and will be done from the Living Oceans website, also we make the link and support for the petition.
We make links to all organisations who support us. Thank you all for your help.

On Friday, April 18 the federal and British Columbia governments announced that they will proceed with a recovery operation of the wreckage that continues to threaten the Robson Bight ecological reserve. The return of the orcas to the area in June makes this salvage operation time sensitive.
Numerous concerned citizens contacted federal Fisheries and Oceans Minister Loyola Hearn requesting an immediate salvage operation of the equipment. Last week it became clear their voices were heard.

After a diesel tanker truck slid off a barge last summer and sank 350 metres in a B.C. coast whale refuge, experts were surprised to find it landed upright and apparently intact on the sea floor. Now they will try to bring it back up the same way, before the orcas return this summer. The B.C. and federal governments have announced plans to recover some of the 11 pieces of logging equipment that fell from the barge into Robson Bight

We have good news. Yesterday, British Columbia's Environment Minister Barry Penner announced that Canada's federal government will cooperate with the province in removing the diesel fuel tanker now lying underwater in the Ecological Reserve at Robson Bight. Though no definite timing was stated, subsequent comments by Minister Penner clearly indicated that officials are aware that the northern resident orcas are expected to return by early summer.
